Stride & Son | Seller's T&Cs

Seller's Terms & Conditions

Vendor’s Commission: Stride & Son charge a standard vendor’s commission rate on the hammer price of 15%, subject to a minimum consignment fee of £10.00.

Lotting Fees: Stride & Son charge a lotting fee of £2.00 per lot. This fee will be deducted from any sale proceeds. If the lot does not sell you will still be liable to pay the lotting fee and any other expenses owing.

Contract: By signing the Contract for Sale you are declaring that you are the owner of the lot or, if you are not the owner of the lot, you are duly authorised by the owner to sell it. You authorise Stride & Son to act as agents on your behalf. The acceptance of goods for sale is entirely at the discretion of Stride & Son. Any description of the lot on the Contract of Sale is for the purposes of identification only and is not to be relied upon.

Estimates: An estimate, where given, is only an expression of our opinion of the range within which the hammer price for the lot at the auction is likely to be. It is not an estimate of value. It does not take account of VAT or Buyer’s Premium. Lots can in fact sell for hammer prices below and above the estimate. On occasion a pre-sale estimate may be subject to change.

The Catalogue: Any statements or representations contained in any description may be changed by us at any time until the lot is sold.

Advertising: We may at our discretion produce on your behalf marketing or promotional material in relation to the lot but are not under any obligation to do so unless we agree with you to do so, in which case we may charge you for it.

Reserves: Where an estimate is given we will offer the lot with ‘Auctioneers Discretion’ on the lower estimate unless otherwise agreed. ‘Auctioneers Discretion’ allows the auctioneer to sell the lot for up to 10% less than the lower estimate. The reserve cannot be higher than the lower estimate. Reserves below £50 will not be accepted.

The Auction: Neither you nor any person acting on your behalf (other than the auctioneer) may bid for the lot(s). The auctioneer reserves the right to withdraw or combine lots as he or she sees fit.

Withdrawal Fees: If you withdraw a lot after publication of the catalogue a fee amounting to 30% of the lower estimate will be payable to us. Where a lot is to be offered without estimate and reserve a fee of £10.00 per lot will be applicable.

Liability: All lots lie at the vendor’s risk until title has passed to the buyer and remain at the vendor’s risk if unsold. Title to the lot will only pass to the buyer on receipt of cleared funds, we will then release the lot to the purchaser. The auctioneers accept no responsibility for the loss of or damage to any lot (howsoever caused) whilst it remains at the place of sale. You may wish to protect yourself against loss or damage by obtaining your own insurance.

Unsold Lots: All unsold lots shall be cleared from the saleroom at the vendor’s expense. If the lot is unsold at the auction, we may for a period of 21 days following the sale enter into agreement to sell the lot upon such terms and conditions as we may reasonably consider appropriate.

Storage: Lots which have been withdrawn or are unsold are required to be collected within five working days. Before removing the lot(s) all fees owing must be settled. If you fail to remove the lot(s) you will incur a daily storage charge of £2.00 per lot.

Complaints: a copy of our ‘Complaints Handling Procedure’ is available upon request.

Unless otherwise stated, all sums payable to us will be subject to VAT.
