TURKEY: TREATY BETWEEN THE SUBLIME PORT AND THE HANSE TOWNS: printed version of this Germano-Turkish agreement, published in Hamburg, 1839: Turkish and German text, with three pages of illustrations showing naval ensigns, hand-coloured: slim 4to, contemporary green morocco gilt,rubbed. A later typewritten note tipped onto upper flyleaf reads...'this the first treaty signed by a Turkish plenepotentiary out of Constantinople, the first officially printed in Turkish. The flags the eagles that of Lubeck the key of Bremen the castle of Hamburg - a copy with the sheet of flags to which the vessel belongs is furnished to each ship heading to the Levant - and serves at the same time to identify the flag and so afford explanation in case of need, this of course being a German version furnished to the Captain...'
