GIELGUD (John): two ALS from John Gielgud to Jon Wynne-Tyson, both relating to Wynne-Tyson's research for work on Noel Coward, the first dated Nov 21 1987 declining an offer to write a preface but adding ..'of course I wish you all luck with getting the play published and perhaps put on..I never knew your mother, but of course have heard of her in all the books about Noel, though I think you would find it difficult to find an actor to play him...'. Second letter dated June 26 1992 begins ...'how nice that your play is to be broadcast...I have just finished reading Clive Fisher's book on Noel with references to your mother, I thought it well done, and he has been clever in avoiding using material from all the other biographies and managing to contribute a more general view of Noel's versatile career without gossip or effusiveness...': both with accompanying envelopes, together with a third one side ALS to verso of Gielgud's compliment slip dated Feb 15th 1989, on related matters, plus a two side printed playbill for Milton's 'Masque of Comus' as performed at Eton College Dec 11th 1922, cast list showing John Gielgud as playing role of Younger Brother, browned, folds and splits.
